Property Rights

(BATTLE GROUND, WA) – The League of Private Property Voters (LPPV) today released an analysis of the votes of Representative George Nethercutt (R-WA) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) from the Private Property Congressional Vote Index from 2002 and 2003.

Every Senator and Representative who scores at least 80% receives a "Champion" of Private Property Right’s certificate. Every Member who gets 20% or less is rated an "Enemy" of Private Property Rights. Full size examples of actual "Champion" and "Enemy" certificates are printed in each Vote Index.

Rep. Nethercutt achieved a 100% score in 2003 and 92% score in 2002. Senator Murray rated a “zero” on private property and resource issues both years. “Champion” and “Enemy” certificates for all recipients are available by writing to >> lppv@pacifier.com <<. Samples can be seen at http://www.landrights.org inside each years Vote Index.

Nethercutt voted for the death tax repeal, energy exploration in National Monuments, energy exploration in ANWR in Alaska, and continued farming irrigation in the Klamath Basin. He opposed farmland land grabs, increasing international courts powers over the US, the giant CARA land grab, increasing legal delays for forest thinning and Clinton’s forest Roadless area lockup.

He supported forest thinning to protect rural communities, RS 2477 access roads, allowing snowmobiles in Yellowstone and President Bush’s Healthy Forest Restoration Act.

Murray opposed repealing the death tax, Klamath Basin irrigation, fire protection funding, stopping international court powers, energy exploration in National Monuments, reducing legal barriers to timber sales, reducing legal barriers to forest thinning and fire prevention measures such as forest thinning.

She supported green pork programs, campaign finance restrictions, a special tax break for land trusts, and farmland land grabs.

“No Senatorial race in the nation more clearly defines the struggle to survive in rural America versus the power of the urban centers. Senator Murray has consistently opposed protecting private property and providing for the access to and the use of our Federal lands”, said Chuck Cushman, Chairman of the League of Private Property Voters.

The League of Private Property Voters is a national non-partisan coalition of over 600 co-sponsoring organizations including the American Land Rights Association, Alliance for America, People for the USA, Blue Ribbon Coalition, American Policy Center, numerous Farm Bureaus, mining, grazing, forestry and agriculture groups as well as most national, regional and local private property, multiple-use and taxpayer organizations.
