Heating Bill Vote In Congress This Week – Call Now!

Urgent Action Required!

Call your Congressman today and tomorrow.
Every Congressman can be called at (202) 225-3121.

Your call could save you thousands of dollars over time.

Tell him to vote YES on ANWR in the Budget Reconciliation Bill.

ANWR has been approved by the Senate. The House simply has to go along.

Tell your Congressman no more game playing with your pocket book.

No more games of chicken with your money as the prize.

Call your friends to get them to call.

Fax Your Heating Bill To Your Congressman

Tired of higher heating bills?

Natural gas bills are up 38% this month over last year.

Heating Oil is up sharply.

Gas is fluctuating but trending way up.

Tell Congress you are tired of the nonsense. Vote For ANWR Now.

The solution is energy independence.

One big solution is to open up ANWR on the North Slope of Alaska.

Congress will vote on the Budget Reconciliation Bill later this week. It will have energy independence (ANWR) in it or it won’t. It is up to you.

Make your calls and it is much more likely Congress will take action.

*****See NEW Action Items Below.

By Friday Congress will vote on ANWR and the future of energy independence in America.

There are a number of Democrats who want to support ANWR but their party leadership is putting pressure on them just to block the Republicans. As a result, all Democrats are opposing energy independence. If your Congressman is a Democrat, call him to tell him not to play party politics with the energy future of our country.

The Republicans listed below are also voting against energy independence and ANWR. Passing ANWR as part of the Budget Reconciliation Bill will dramatically help reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. It will lead to lower gas, heating and energy prices over time.

The Senate has already passed ANWR as part of the Budget Reconciliation bill. The ANWR drilling area is a tiny 2,000 acre section of the 19,000,000 acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on the North Slope of Alaska.

That little piece of ANWR could produce more oil than the Prudhoe Bay discovery right next to ANWR on Alaska’s North Slope. Prudhoe Bay has supplied a tremendous percentage of America’s oil since the 1970’s. But it is running out.

ANWR can be added to the Budget Reconciliation Bill if even a few Democrats and the Republicans listed below support it.

ANWR is home to vast, still untapped, supplies of American energy. Time is short but if you and millions like you take immediate action you have a chance to fix the provisions in the Budget Reconciliation Bill to protect our energy future, American jobs and American families.

Tell your Congressman you are tired of energy welfare and dependence on foreign sources. You want energy independence for America NOW!

Now is your chance to strike a blow for lower gas prices, heating bills and for energy independence.

Your phone call NOW could decide the future of gas prices and energy independence in this country for many years.

Tell your Congressman not to let America down. Tell him to support ANWR.

Ask him to tell you whether he will support ANWR or not.

Tell him he is going to get a copy of your heating bill.

*****Action Items

-----1. Call your Congressman immediately (whether or not he is on the list below) at the Capitol Switchboard. Call (202) 225-3121 to tell him you are sending your latest heating bill. When the operator answers, ask for your Congressman’s office. Then ask for the staff person who handles ANWR, or Budget Reconciliation. Be sure to ask for your Congressman’s fax number.

-----2. Fax your Heating Bill to your Congressman today.

-----3. Mail your heating bill to your Congressman now! Pull out your latest heating bill (whether you heat with natural gas or oil, your costs will skyrocket this winter). Then write on the bill itself or attach a note to it, with your Congressman’s name on it. Include some of the talking points listed below in your own words. Be sure it has your name and address (scratch off any numbers or personal information besides your name and address). If you can, send a copy of last years heating bill for the same period. That will get their attention.

Address the envelope: Energy Independence Coalition, 611 Pennsylvania Ave SE #142, Washington, DC, 20003-4303.

Put your Congressman’s name on it. Write: Attention: (and then the name of your Congressman). Your sealed envelope will be hand delivered to your Congressman. If you send it to your Congressman directly, it will be delayed by the anthrax inspections and he or she are not likely to see it for a month or more.

Tell him or her you are going to send the larger heating bill that comes next month also and the even larger one you will get later in the Winter. Urge him to support opening up ANWR and the OCS to exploration and production so heating prices can be kept fair and reasonable. Getting more supply will cut costs better than more energy welfare. Every Congressman must get lots of calls.

-----4. Call at least three friends to urge them to do the same things.

-----5. Please forward this message to as many people as you can.

*****Talking Points (Pick one, two or three. Put in your own words)

-----Please don’t play partisan politics with my heating bill. Support ANWR.

-----I simply can't afford to have my heating, gasoline and electricity costs continue to climb.

-----My heating bill is proof of how my family is being hurt by out of control energy costs.

-----It is urgent that the House support the Senate vote in favor of the ANWR and OCS provisions in the Budget Reconciliation Bill.

-----The Senate has already passed these provisions with a bipartisan vote after years of effort.

-----It is important that the House take this rare opportunity to protect American jobs and families from dependence on foreign suppliers.

-----Please, we need your courage and leadership to stand up for Americans and restore the ANWR and OCS provisions to the Budget Reconciliation Bill.

-----I will send you my energy bills every month until ANWR and OCS are opened, as a constant reminder of my desperate situation.

-----My family and I will be forever grateful if you take action to provide us with badly needed help with our heating bill.

It is important that every congressman or woman be contacted but it is even more important that you send your bill if yours is one of the congressmen and women who are opposing opening ANWR. See if your representative is on this list and contact him or her immediately.

Also, Chairmen Richard Pombo (CA-11) and Joe Barton (TX-6) especially need to get positive calls for their courage and determination. They can be reached also at (202) 225-3121.

And the House leadership, especially Speaker Denny Hastert (IL-14), need to hear from people all over the country demanding ANWR/OCS provisions to increase America’s energy supplies. You can call them all at (202) 225-3121.

Background:

ANWR - America's Largest Untapped Oil Field

Critics say oil and gas exploration in ANWR would harm wildlife and wouldn't help our current crisis because the oil won't be available for a decade.

Here's why they're wrong.

-----We need to increase our domestic production and lessen our reliance on foreign oil. America's dependence on foreign oil has risen sharply in recent years, going from 35% during the 1973 Arab oil embargo, to over 50% today.

-----At current trends, we will import 2 of every 3 barrels of oil by 2020.

-----We are proposing to open only a small fraction - 8 percent - of ANWR for oil and exploration. This region is a treeless arctic desert with almost no wildlife during its 9-month winters.

-----Up to 16 billion barrels of oil exist in ANWR. The mean estimate (10.4 billion barrels) would make it the largest oil field discovered in the world in the last 40 years.

-----16 billion barrels of oil would equal 30 years of Saudi imports, and almost 60 years of Iraqi imports.

-----21st century technologies like horizontal drilling, 3-D seismic mapping and ice roads can help us minimize the production footprint to only 2,000 acres out of the 19 million acres of ANWR. That is equivalent to four average American family farms in a place the size of South Carolina.

-----The Clinton Administration opened up more than twice as much acreage in Alaska's coastal plain for supplies estimated to be only one-fifth as large. It took only three years after opening this area before commercial quantities of oil were discovered.

Oil and gas development has successfully coexisted with wildlife in Alaska's arctic for over 30 years. The Central Arctic Caribou Herd at Prudhoe Bay has grown from 3,000 in 1970 to 27,000 today - a nine-fold increase. The population of Grizzly bears and Polar bears has increased. Oil development has endangered no species.

Now is your chance to do something positive to bring down oil and gas prices.

You can personally change your heating bill for the better by making your call today.

Call your Congressman now. The most powerful person in the country right now is the angry constituent calling their Congressman. Please do your part.

Please forward this message widely.

Thank you in advance for your support for the energy future of America.
