URGENT ACTION ALERT – CARA (HR-701) (S-25)

HOUSE AGRICULTURE AND BUDGET COMMITTEES WILL DECIDE IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS WHETHER THEY SHOULD HOLD MEETINGS TO REVIEW HR-701, THE CONSERVATION AND REINVESTMENT ACT (CARA).

THIS IS A $3 BILLION PORK BARREL LAND ACQUISITION TRUST FUND INCLUDING THE THREAT OF MASSIVE CONDEMNATION (EMINENT DOMAIN).

It will be a real plus for opponents of CARA if either one or both of the committees decide to take a close look at HR-701.

Supporters of CARA are working hard to prevent both committees from reviewing CARA and examining its $3 billion in annual pork.

They want to prevent open hearings that will expose that the residents of a handful of states reap nearly all the pork barrel spending in CARA.

For example, residents of Alaska receive a guaranteed subsidy of $274 per person per year for the next fifteen years. Louisiana, one of the poorest states in America, gains over $300 million per year guaranteed under CARA. Meanwhile the average state receives only $10.72 per person per year. Many states even lose money.

IT IS VITAL THAT YOU REVIEW THE LISTS OF BOTH COMMITTEES TO SEE IF YOUR CONGRESSMAN IS A MEMBER. IF SO, PLEASE GO TO THE ACTIONS AT THE BOTTOM.

  4.

  5. Even if you call, write a letter to your Congressman asking for hearings on HR-701. You may write to Honorable US House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20515.
  6.

  7. Send a copy of this E-Mail to your E-mail list.
  8.

  9. Make a photocopy and give it to at least five other people.
