12/18/99 | G. RAY ARNETT, Former National Wildlife Federation President Ray Arnett condemns CARA: "CARA is destined to be a disaster for one of its intended beneficiaries, the sporting community of hunters and fishermen who are the true and best conservationists in America." 11/16/99 | MIKE DOOGAN, Anchorage Daily News (Alaska) - DON YOUNG A GREENIE? HE MUST BE UNDER THE CONTROL OF ALIENS - For every speck of his more than 25 years in Congress, all it took to launch Young on one of his spectacular tirades was for an environmentalist to show up anywhere near him. The real Don Young hates environmentalists. Here's what he had to say about them just last year: "They are communists. They believe in the communal ownership of all natural resources, including the land. And they believe that every community that lives off the land should also be owned by the government. That is their ultimate goal." |
11/12/99 | LIBERTY MATTERS NEWS SERVICE - YOUNG FUNDS PATH TO SOCIALISM: "Mark my words, we will rue this day, when we decided to set the un-reversible process in place to remove massive tracts of land in this great country from production and the tax-rolls." Congressman Helen Chenoweth-Hage |

11/10/99 | HOUSE RESOURCES COMMITTEE MARKUP - Reported by Chuck S. Cushman,
Keep Private Lands in Privates Hands Coalition. "Those who oppose this bill are going to get run over." declared Don Young (R-AK) "I am loathe to give the Federal government a credit card with virtually unlimited buying power. We simply can't afford the payments," said Barbara Cubin (R-WY). |

10/29/99 | ALRA ALERT - HERE THEY GO AGAIN!!! You need to have a heart to heart with your Congressman and Senators about how property owners are going to feel if this Republican Congress passes a bill that damages landowners. |
10/29/99 | LIBERTY MATTERS ACTION ALERT - Mr. Speaker, Congressman Don Young is attempting to pass H.R. 701, the Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 1999. We implore you to stop this bill. It will be the destruction of private property and ultimately the destruction of our nation. |
10/25/99 | ALRA ALERT - THIS REPUBLICAN CONGRESS IS ON THE VERGE OF CREATING A TRUST FUND THAT WILL DESTROY MORE PRIVATE PROPERTY THAN ANY CONGRESS IN HISTORY. |
10/25/99 | SARAH FOSTER, WorldNetDaily Exclusive - A 'SNEAK ATTACK' ON PROPERTY RIGHTS? Clinton holds money bills 'hostage' to land grab. |

Government ownership of land is the first requirement of every socialist society. |
10/02/99 | DAVID WHITNEY, Anchorage Daily News, Washington Bureau - DENALI BUYOUT STALLS - MONEY WITHHELD FOR MINE CLAIM. Read how "unwilling" sellers are converted to "willing" sellers: "...According to Young and Murkowski, Denali park officials recently represented to congressional appropriators that Barney and his partner are willing sellers. But they said the businessmen are actually "worn sellers" - exhausted and beleaguered by the Park Service drawing out a process that should have been smooth and easy." |

6/1/99 | DON YOUNG INTERVIEW, Chairman, House Resources Committee, ALASKA PUBLIC RADIO NETWORK, Talk of Alaska program (call-in show). He is asked: Don, at the beginning of most Interior Committee meetings you used to protest by asking: "Whose land are we stealing today?" But now, in this CARA bill that you just talked about, you want public money to be spent for government purchase, off-budget, of vast amounts of private land. But, taxpayers, landowners, and property rights groups whose support you have eagerly solicited in the past are flabbergasted that you -- and I'm going to quote Senator Malcolm Wallop -- "have now decided to reverse course and promote socialization of private property on a massive scale." Don, you have responded by calling those with reasoned objections to what you are doing "extremists". Can you please explain yourself? |

5/18/99 | ASSOCIATED PRESS, Washington DC Bureau, SENATOR EXPECTS FALL BUDGET CRASH, as carried in the New York Times. Alaska Senator Ted Stevens has not indicated his position on CARA (HR701/S25). Some speculate that he will probably oppose it because of his position as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He supposedly would not want more of the committee authority over appropriations to be eroded. However this article indicates that he seems to be in favor of breaking the budget agreement caps to make more money available, even in the absence of offsetting cuts. |

7/02/97 | ALSTON CHASE - Anchorage Daily News - Voice of the Times ö CONGRESS: STOP ME BEFORE I BUY LAND AGAIN - ...In his 1961 bestseller, "African Genesis," writer Robert Ardrey observed that "the drive to gain, maintain and defend the exclusive right to a piece of property is an animal instinct approximately as ancient and powerful as sex." We live in a permissive age, where land, like sex, is pursued without limit. Under the guise of environmental protection, a mostly urbanite society, insatiably seeking space, uses federal acquisitions as a weapon against a dwindling rural population for control of territory. Hence, as the battle for the environment replaces the war on communism, the conflict is transformed into a struggle between city and country. And thanks to incessant federal land grabs, rural America, including its flora and fauna, is losing. |
