SENATE ENERGY COMMITTEE SENDS LETTER TO BUDGET COMMITTEE ASKING FOR ROOM IN THE BUDGET FOR CARA-LANDS LEGACY

This is the first test vote on CARA-Lands Legacy in the Senate this year. Here is the list of the Energy Committee and how the Senators voted. It's pretty clear we have our work cut out for us but as long as our friends hang tough, we've got a good shot.

Besides calling those the voted for money for CARA, you want to thank those that voted against. We believe this was a test vote by Energy Chairman Frank Murkowski (R-AK) to see where the Energy Committee was and to get support in the Budget Committee for busting the budget agreements.

The only reason there was a vote at all was because Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA) raised the issue and forced a vote. Murkowski had planned ahead and had proxies in favor of asking for more money for CARA from Senators Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-CO) and Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL). 

HERE IS THE SENATE ENERGY COMMITTEE VOTE ON 2/23/00

A YES vote means they voted to support the letter asking to break the budget agreements and in effect, supported CARA A NO vote was against sending the letter, in effect against CARA and in support of private property. You want to make sure these members get credit they deserve.
