Congress Votes 4,2 on Wilderness, Allowing Immigration, Drug Smuggling
Check the lists below of the House Natural Resources Committee and the Homeland
Security Committee to see if your Congressman is there. He should be. Whether or
not he is listed, you need to call your Congressman immediately.
Members of the House Natural Resources Committee will vote on Wednesday, April 2nd on two Wilderness bills that threaten our Homeland Security, increase drug smuggling and provide a freeway for illegal immigration.
The Grijalva Wilderness Border Bills, on a Vote Fast Track For Illegal Immigration and drug smuggling, will be voted on as part of a Omnibus Wilderness Bill in the House Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday, April 2nd. Nick Joe Rahall (D-WV) is the Chairman. This session is called a Mark-Up. That means Vote in Committee.
The Grijalva Wilderness Border Bills (HR 3287 and HR 2593) are a threat to Homeland Security and basically a freeway for illegal aliens to sneak into the United States and provide an open pathway for drug smugglers.
Bill Summary: HR 3287
HR 3287 would create a new Forest Service Wilderness area on the border with Mexico. Because cars and other mechanical devices are prohibited, it makes policing a Wilderness Area difficult. Where this Wilderness area is going is already the largest passageway for illegal immigration and drug smuggling in the US. The Wilderness Area will just make it worse.
Bill Summary: HR 2593
HR 2593 prohibits the Border Patrol from working on Federal land. That means they will be prevented from operating inside the new Wilderness Area. This bill just helps illegals who want to cross the border and drug smugglers get in the United States. Remember you can read both bills yourself by going to www.landrights.org. You can also see a rough map of the area in question.
Action Items below.
-----1. Your Congressman should be on either the House Natural Resources Committee or the House Homeland Security Committee or both and is listed below.
Even if he is not, you need to call, fax and email your Congressman at (202) 225-3121 at the Capitol Switchboard to urge him to alert both the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee about how these bills (HR 3287 and HR 2593) threaten Homeland Security, help drug smugglers and increase trafficking in illegal immigration. Ask that he send you a copy of his or her letter.
When you reach the Capitol Switchboard, (202) 225-3121, ask for your Congressman's office. When they answer, ask for the person who handles Wilderness or Homeland Security. You have just a week to stop these terrible bills. You must put as much pressure on your Congressman as you can. Make sure he or she knows that the responsibility for passing this breach of Homeland Security falls directly in their lap. They will be held accountable.
-----2. You need to call the Homeland Security Committee to alert them to the danger and ask them to request the Natural Resources Committee to pull both HR 3287 and HR 2593 from the Wilderness Omnibus Bill to be voted on in Committee on Wednesday, April 2nd. Feel free to forward a copy of this email.
-----3. You need to call as well as send e-mail or a fax to each of the Members of the Natural Resources Committee listed below as well as each Members of the Homeland Security Committee. Tell them they are voting on two bills that will threaten Homeland Security, expand smuggling and empower illegal immigration into the United States.
-----4. You can forward this e-mail with your own comments added to each of the Members of the Homeland Security Committee also listed below.
-----5. Go look at a map of the proposed Wilderness area right on the border of Arizona and Mexico. It's easy. You can just go to www.landrights.org home page. The map link is close to the title: Grijalva Wilderness Corridor . You can also click on the bill numbers to get a complete copy of each bill.
-----6. Please forward this e-mail to at least five other people. Ten is
better. Your whole list is best. Please do what you can quickly.
=====American Land Rights will send you a vote record to show you how your
Congressman and all others on the Natural Resources Committee voted on HR 3287
and HR 2593.
-----Rep. Raul Grijalva is Chairman of the National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee. As Committee Chairman, the Committee Members almost always support their Chairman. We've included a complete list of the full Natural Resources Committee Members below. The bill will get a lot of support and some or most of the Parks Subcommittee Members are not aware of the threat to Homeland Security.
-----The first bill is the Tumacacori Highland Wilderness Act of 2007 that creates a new Forest Service Wilderness Area in Arizona on the border with Mexico. This bill, HR 3287, creates a new Wilderness area exactly where a major illegal immigration traffic area and drug smuggling pathway already exists. The largest in the country.
Technically the proposed Tumacacori Highland Wilderness Area is not "on the border with Mexico." It is contiguous with the small, old, Pajarito Wilderness Area that is directly on the border and links the Pajarito Wilderness Area with Interstate 19 and the interior of the country. A freeway for illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
-----We call HR 3287 the "Open Door Into Our US" or ODIOUS Act.
-----If that was not enough, Rep. Grijalva has also introduced HR 2593 which would shackle the hands of the Border Patrol on Federal lands.
-----Believe it or not, Rep. Grijalva calls HR 2593 "The Borderlands Conservation and Security Act of 2007." HR 2593 is full of cute phrasing and pretty words to throw the reader off as to its true intent.
But you might as well just handcuff the Border Patrol on all Federal lands all along the Mexican Border. This bill will have a huge impact on the traffic of illegals and drugs if Congress should pass it.
It even blocks the building of a fence along the border.
We call HR 2593 the "Handcuff Our Border Law Enforcement Act" or HOBLE Act.
These two bills might be called the missing link in the corridor where illegals and drug smugglers will be protected and the Border Patrol handcuffed.
By passing these two bills, Congress would create a massive area open to illegals and vastly strangle the ability of law enforcement and the Border Patrol to fight drug importation and illegal immigration.
You should be outraged. You must take action.
-----A. Also call your Congressman to ask for a copy of both HR 3287 and HR
2593. Do this even if you get a copy of the bill from us. That will force his or
her staff to read the bills. Tell your Congressman that these bills must be
stopped.
Ask your Congressman to contact Rep. Raul Grijalva to oppose both HR 3287 and HR
2593. Any Congressman can be called at (202) 225-3121.
-----B. Get a copy of the map of the proposed Tumacacori Highland Wilderness Area and see how it fits adjacent to other Federal lands along the border. See how it enhances an already highly used path used by illegals and drug runners into the United States. You will also see how the HOBLE bill covers a huge section of the border and prevents the Border Patrol and law enforcement from securing the area.
We've made up a rough map which we have posted to our website.
Go to www.landrights.org and look for Grijalva Border Wilderness Bills on the home page. Click on that and it will take you to where you can click on the bill numbers for a copy of each bill as well as a rough map of the proposed Wilderness Area.
-----C. Call any organizations you work with that should be informed about these bills. Don't assume they know already. Ask them to go to www.landrights.org for a copy of both bills as well as the map. Urge them to take immediate action with Congress to protect our border security.
-----D. Call, fax and e-mail Rep. Raul Grijalva's office. Here is his contact information. You need to send him e-mail through his staff person, Rick Healy, listed below.
Phone: (202) 225-2435
Fax: (202) 225-1541
E-mail: [email protected]
-----E. Send a very short letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the two bills mentioned above.
Your calls, faxes and e-mails can head off these terrible border non-security bills.
Here is the House Natural Resources Committee. All can be called at the Capital Switchboard at (202) 225-3121. The Committee phone is (202) 225-2761. You can fax the committee office at (202) 225-5929. E-mail them using the e-mail of the staff person we have listed. If you use that list and the e-mail fails to work, just call the Congressman that staff member works for at the Capitol Switchboard number we've listed and get the correct e-mail. Be sure to let us know about the correction.
