Yes, the meeting is tonight, Thursday, July 28th at 6:00 pm These meetings are very useful to understand the Cowlitz Casino proposal and what it would do to communities in Clark County including Ridgefield, La Center, Battle Ground, Woodland and Vancouver. The Cowlitz testified before Congress yesterday at a hearing about Reservation Shopping before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Chuck Cushman is in Washington, DC and attended the hearing. The Cowlitz were sharply questioned by Chairman Senator John McCain (R-AZ) about the proposed area for their Casino being outside their aboriginal boundaries. Congress is moving to stop Reservation Shopping so the Cowlitz may be headed for trouble. The key to winning this battle and stopping the casino will be how much the community stands up and opposes it. Attending these Cowlitz Casino Roundtable meetings is very important. And you’ll meet more of your elected officials in one place than you ever would any place else. One of the guest speakers will be another community that has a casino. Don’t forget to bring a pad of paper. If you have a question or a statement, you can write it down and hand it to your elected official.
