Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and
Preserve Boundary
MS-875 (Spokane Placer) and MS 1082B (Marvelous Mill Site)
Alaska

These instructions provide for the retracement and/or dependent resurvey, as necessary, of a portion of the exterior boundaries oŁ the Wrangell-St. Elias National. Park and Preserve, Mineral Survey 875 (NPS Parcel 28-114) and Mineral Survey 1082E (NPS Parcel 28-115), situated approximately 5 miles northeasterly of Kennecott, Alaska, within Township 4 south, Range 14 East, Copper River Meridian, Alaska, along McCarthy Creek to accommodate management of parks lands.
In the execution of the survey included under these Special Instructions, the surveyor assigned is authorized and directed to make the described examination, retracements, re-establishment of points of control, surveys, and resurveys set out in these instructions. The surveyor will be guided by the Manual of Instructions for the Survey of the Public Lands of the-United States 1973, hereinafter referred to as the Manual, the provisions of the following Special instructions, and any such additional instructions as may be issued during the progress of work.
AUTHORITY
The National Park Service has requested the necessary survey by memorandum dated April 22, 2003.
APPROPRIATION
The costs of executing this survey and the preparation of field notes and plats will be paid by the National Park Service.
LIMIT AND CHARACTER OF WORK
This survey is limited to the retracement and/or dependent resurvey of MS 875 (Spokane Placer), (NPS designator, 26-114) and MS 1082B (Marvelous Mill Site), (NPS designator 28-115) and portions of the public land survey system, to the extent necessary to execute this survey.
HISTORY OF SURVEYS
Mineral Survey No. 875 was surveyed in 1909.
Mineral Survey No. 1082 was surveyed in 1918.
Mineral Survey No. 1081B, located northerly of, and contiguous with Mineral Survey No. 1082, Parcel B of this survey, was surveyed in 1918.
Mineral Survey No. 563, located approximately 2 miles westerly of Mineral Survey No. 1082, Parcel B of this survey, was surveyed in 1903.
Mineral Survey No. 616, located approximately 2 miles westerly of Mineral Survey No. 1082, Parcel B of this survey, was surveyed in 1905.
Mineral Survey No. 1074, located approximately 1 1/2 miles westerly of Mineral Survey No. 1082, Parcel B of this survey, was surveyed in 1918.
Numerous other Mineral Surveys are located in the general vicinity.
METHOD AND ORDER OF PROCEDURE
Mineral Survey Nos. 875 and 1082B and such controlling corners as may be required will be retraced and/or dependently resurveyed only to the extent necessary to execute this survey.

Surveyed lines are to brushed sufficiently as to be visible from the air.
Witness points will be established on all lines that exceed 2970 feet in length in accordance with the manual, and as directed by the National Park Service representative.
Noncontiguous lots of this survey will be tied together by bearing and distance. This tie will be verified either by repetition or use of an alternate method of measurement.
If a corner of the public land survey system used in the execution ox this survey is found to be substandard, or needs either rehabilitation or remonumentation, the surveyor is hereby given the authority to rehabilitate or remonument the corner.
A complete description of any substitute monument used and an explanation as to the reason for substitution will be given in the field note record.
DIAGRAMS AND SUPPLEMENTAL DATA
Copies of maps, MTPs, District Sheets, plats, field notes, and patent documents, will be furnished as data. If additional information is needed, it will be furnished upon request.
FIELD NOTES, PLATS, AND REPORTS
The survey will be reviewed and determined to be correct and complete in the field. The field books, draft plat, calculation sheets, and other data pertinent to this survey will be submitted to the Chief, Branch of Policy Interpretation and Survey Records.
MODIFICATION OF INSTRUCTIONS
Should conditions arise appearing to demand additional instructions, require interpretation of these instructions, or which make these instructions inapplicable, a report will be submitted promptly to the Chief, Branch of Survey Planning and Preparation, describing the situation with recommendations to resolve such problems.
