Here are the HEROES and ZEROES in the battle to defend private property rights and fight the CARA massive trust fund land grab

TRUE BLUE HEROES
Thank you for sticking to your principles!

Rep. Helen Chenoweth-Hage (R-Idaho) led the charge by preparing over 40 amendments to the bill which were offered by her and other members. Committee Chairman Don Young refused to allow votes on many of her amendments as retribution for her leadership role.  She signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Sen. Slade Gorton (R-Washington) Leader of the fight against CARA in the Senate, he stopped the $3 billion dollar annual land grab trust fund from being added to the Budget Resolution.

Rep. Ken Calvert (R-California) proposed an amendment to prohibit money to be used for condemnation (eminent domain). It was defeated by power hungry environmental groups who want maximum leverage to force people off their land.

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California) proposed an amendment to protect inholders from having access cut off and additional regulations imposed under the guise of "buffer zones." It was defeated.

Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-Wyoming) recommended that there be no net gain of federal lands, but her amendment was defeated.  She signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Rep. George Radanovich (R-California) is Chairman of the Western Caucus.  He represents hundreds of Inholders and thousands of constituents impacted by public lands policies.  He signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Rep. Bob Schaffer (R-Colorado) proposed that no funds be used for the American Heritage Rivers Initiative, which many believe to be unconstitutional, but lost.  He signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas)  He signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Rep. John Peterson (R-Pennsylvania)  He signed a very strongly worded "Dissenting View" letter stating the objections property owners have to CARA, including massive adverse condemnation of private property and cutoff of recreational and commercial access to federal land.

Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon) is usually not an ally of property owners, but he helped in another way. He was the only Democrat to speak against the bill, the only one with the guts to openly oppose Rep. George Miller (D-California). DeFazio pointed out that the bill will encourage additional offshore oil drilling because $3 billion dollars in annual pork barrel spending will be financed by oil royalties. He exposed Miller's sellout of environmentalists who oppose offshore drilling. Miller had an amendment inserted (page 21, lines 9 to 15) that dumps extra pork spending into his congressional district.

ZEROES:  Everyone has a price, and these guys didn't sell out cheap!

Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) SOLD OUT his fellow trappers and hunters in exchange for an annual $272 per person per year subsidy for Alaska guaranteed by CARA. Animal rights activists will use the CARA land grab to eliminate access for hunting and trapping.  Alaska -- a state with only 1% of its land in private hands (except for native corporation holdings) -- now will get CARA money for government to buy up even more private land.

Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) by sponsoring CARA, SOLD OUT miners, timber workers and inholders - basically, the same people he graduated from high school with in Ketchikan! OINK! OINK!

Rep. Rick Hill (R-Montana) sold out to Don Young on the floor of the House and in full view of national television during the CARA land grab passage debate in exchange merely for a bureaucratic study of Montana federal lands!

Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-Louisiana) SOLD OUT property owners by opposing protections for inholders and landowners adjacent to federal lands. Tauzin flip-flopped on his previous positions, but with $313 million per year in cash guaranteed for Louisiana, pork overrode principles.

Rep. George Miller (D-California) SOLD OUT environmentalists by making CARA's funding dependent on offshore oil revenues. He also made sure his constituents got a big piece of the CARA pork pie. With $3 billion dollars per year to spread around the country, CARA provides a powerful incentive to maintain and increase offshore drilling.

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) SOLD OUT South Dakota farmers and all land owners by attempting unsuccessfully to add CARA to the Budget Resolution. This was a suck-up to the national environmental establishment, which stands to gain millions in taxpayer financed grant money.
